A guide, not a sales page

From first steps to further on.

How to size it correctly, how to build up at a sensible pace, and the safety rules that never change. Plain information, whether or not you ever buy anything.

Four rules that never change.

None optional, at any level of experience. Together they prevent almost every problem people run into.

A flared base, always

The anus has no natural stopping point and can draw an object in. A flared base is wider than the widest part of the piece, so it physically cannot pass the opening. This is a safety requirement rather than a design preference.

And to be precise: a separate cord or string is not a flared base, because it can snap or be pulled off under tension. On a bead strand, the safe equivalent is a solid ring moulded as part of the same piece.

More lubricant than you think

This area produces none of its own. Use generously, reapply often rather than pushing on, and choose a thicker formula if you are new to it.

And: water based with any silicone piece, since silicone lubricant degrades silicone. Never anything numbing, because pain is the warning system.

Slower than feels necessary

The muscle relaxes gradually and cannot be hurried. Pain is information, not something to push past.

In practice: pressure, pause, pressure. If it will not go, that is the answer for today rather than a problem to solve tonight.

Non porous materials only

Body safe silicone, borosilicate glass or stainless steel. Porous materials cannot be properly sanitised, which matters more here than anywhere else on the body.

Excluded: TPE, TPR, jelly and anything unlabelled. Our standard is published.
Sizing

Start smaller than you expect to want.

Choosing too large is the single most common mistake, and the reason many people conclude anal play is not for them after one uncomfortable attempt. A modest size used comfortably always beats an ambitious one used badly.

Judge by widthThe widest point is what the muscle has to accommodate. Length barely matters here. When comparing options, compare diameters and ignore everything else.
Beginner sizes are genuinely smallAround a finger's width is a realistic starting point. That is not a limitation, it is where nearly everyone begins, including people who later use much larger pieces.
Let weeks pass, not minutesProgressive sets exist so the body adapts over time. Moving up a size should feel unremarkable when you do it. If it feels like an event, it is too soon.
Tapered shapes are kinderA gradual taper eases entry. A sudden change in width is what causes discomfort, regardless of overall size, which is why two pieces with identical measurements can feel completely different.

If you want the arithmetic behind these numbers, the measurement guide explains how girth is worked out from width, and what a stated size actually means.

What is what

The main categories.

Six shapes, and what each is actually for.

PlugsDesigned to sit comfortably and stay put, giving a steady sensation of fullness rather than movement.
Beginner
Training setsGraduated sizes used over weeks, so the body adapts at its own pace instead of all at once.
Progressive
BeadsA strand of graduated spheres, where much of the sensation comes from slow removal rather than insertion. Only ever as one moulded piece with a solid ring, never on a cord.
Movement
Prostate massagersCurved to reach the prostate on the front wall, a few centimetres in. Shape matters far more than power.
Targeted
Powered plugsVibration or remote control added to a plug shape. The same base and lubricant rules apply without exception.
Vibrating
CleansingOptional, and gentler is better. Plain warm water only, used occasionally rather than routinely, since over cleansing irritates the lining.
Preparation
Common questions

Asked quietly, answered plainly.

Should it hurt?
No. Pressure and fullness are expected. Sharp or burning pain is not. Pain means stop, add lubricant, and go back to a smaller size rather than something to work through.
Do I need to prepare beforehand?
Usually less than people assume. Timing it around a normal bowel movement and washing externally is enough for most. If you do rinse, plain warm water, gently, and not as a daily habit. Over cleansing causes more discomfort than it prevents.
How long before I can go up a size?
Weeks rather than sessions, and there is no schedule. The test is whether the current size feels unremarkable. If it still takes concentration, stay where you are.
Is this only for particular people?
No. The nerve endings here are not arranged by gender or orientation, and the prostate is anatomy rather than an identity. Enjoying it says nothing about you except that you have a body.
When should I speak to a doctor?
If you have bleeding, ongoing pain, haemorrhoids or any bowel condition, get advice before use. Persistent symptoms afterwards are always worth having looked at, and nobody in a clinic will find it remarkable.
What if something gets drawn in?
Do not attempt to retrieve it with anything. Go to an emergency department. It is more common than you would think, and it is treated without comment.

This page is education, not medical advice. If you have haemorrhoids, a fissure, inflammatory bowel disease or any other condition affecting the area, speak to your doctor before using anything internally.

When you are ready

Seven pieces, flared bases throughout.

Still at $49 is a graduated set, so you never guess a size. Vector at $89 is where prostate play should start. Cleanse at $59 handles the preparation.
